From Rescue
To Recovery

Afrinalia is a queer survivor-led and feminist organization based in Kenya, with programs extending across East Africa. We are committed to dismantling systemic oppressions that fuel exploitation and violence among the LGBTIQ+ community.

A Survivor-Led Movement for Dignity

We do this through survivor-centered interventions, including an operation of a transitional home/shelter. Where we host survivors of all forms of exploitation and violence, those at risk, displaced individuals, and vulnerable refugees.

Our work runs through two major programs: Protection (interventions including legal aid, rescue, safety/shelter, case management, psychosocial support, safeguarding and prevention) and Community Development (we use economical justice and resilience as an approach for recovery and reintegration, meaning all our activities, training, and everything developmental falls here).

Our Vision

Afrinalia envisions a just and inclusive world where every person (regardless of identity or background) lives free from exploitation, violence and any other systemic injustices.

Our Mission

To support the East African LGBTIQ+ community in overcoming all forms of modern-day slavery/exploitation and violence by providing queer-survivor-led, and intersectional interventions that restore dignity, safety and urgency.

What Drives Us

1. Survivor Leadership

We believe those who have lived through exploitation hold the deepest wisdom for change. Afrinalia is led by survivors, ensuring that every voice, story, and decision reflects lived experience and community insight.

2. Healing and Resilience

We prioritize trauma-informed care and holistic wellbeing. Healing is not just recovery, it is the foundation for reclaiming agency, building strength, and leading change.

3. Justice and Equity

We challenge systems of oppression and discrimination that fuel exploitation & violence. Our work advances social, economic, and gender justice, creating pathways for all people to live with equality and dignity.

4. Inclusion and Intersectionality

We celebrate diversity in all its forms and recognize how identities intersect to shape experiences. Afrinalia ensures that no one is left behind, especially those at the margins of both the queer and anti-trafficking movements.

5. Creativity and Ethical Storytelling

We harness the power of art, storytelling, and innovation to transform pain into purpose. Every narrative is shared with integrity, ensuring survivors own their stories and shape the narratives that define them.

These five values together reinforce Our identity as a movement that heals, empowers, and transforms, from rescue to resilience, and from survival to leadership.

A Full Continuum of Care

We meet survivors where they are — from first point of contact through long-term recovery. Every service is designed by and for the LGBTIAQGNC community.

Safe Shelter
